Hurricane/Winter Advisory Watch
Here at the beach, we're always reminded to be prepared for hurricane season. Winter weather may also cause some inconveniences. Church services will always be held unless the island (Carolina Beach/Pleasure Island) is under evacuation or Snow's Cut Bridge is closed. In either or both of those circumstances, services will be suspended. Otherwise, stay safe, and know that we'll be open for worship at 8:30 and 11:00 A.M.
Building Expansion Update Jul-29-2010
After much prayerful deliberation, the Session voted unanimously on Wednesday evening, July 28, to proceed with the Design & Construction Subcommittee's recommendation for the building expansion, at a greatly reduced cost of just over $975,275. The Session also voted unanimously to proceed with arrangements Ed Davis has been working on with a local bank in order to provide a line of credit sufficient for this project. More details will be given in worship, and of course in the print edition of News of the Pews and in all the media available to us. We have great cause for gratitude that we are able to fulfill the promise that has been entrusted to us. Be proud of your Session, and the many people who have been involved--for years in some cases--in this long and painstaking process. They made faithful but sometimes difficult decisions, and applied every ounce of wisdom, knowledge, and intelligence to their deliberations. And let us give thanks to God for putting us in the coveted position of being called on to face a challenge that can only be described as an incredibly wonderful blessing: the desperate need for more room, for a church and a mission that have outgrown the capacity of their facilities.

To keep up with decisions and overtures coming into and out of the biennial General Assembly of the PC(USA) held in July, click here. This will be a more valuable resource than most mianstream media, who tend to misunderstand and, consequently, misreport our decision-making process.

The Mission & Benevolence Committee will sponsor Fair Trade coffee sales on Sunday, September 5. Coffee, tea, and other products will be available for purchase after both services. The Presbyterian Coffee Project (click on the icon above for info) benefits small coffee farmers in Latin America, Africa, and Asia, who are often trapped in poverty. These farmers typically receive less than the cost of production for their beans. But there is hope through Fair Trade. “Fair trade” means that these small farmers in the Developing World receive a fair price for their labors, a model rooted in the principles of justice, equity, cooperation and sustainability.
