Congratulations

Congratulations, Carolina Beach Presbyterian Church!

As of Friday morning, Jan. 20, our Certificate of Occupancy has been granted. In other words, your new building expansion is ready to be used for God's mission!

The ceremonial words and formal celebrations will take place in the near future; for now, we can all give thanks to God for the hard work, dedication, and vision of many of our church members, past and present.

It is especially appropriate to acknowledge Larry Powell, Troy Slaughter and Scott Woodard who, in the capacity of heading our Design & Construction Committee, have been active and present, day and night, throughout the course of this project. But where would we be without Fran Young, Ed Davis, Mark McLamb, and the many others who headed up the Capital Campaign and its various committees and subcommittees? And how far from our goals would we be if not for Bettie Slusser, Becky Copenhaver, and the full membership of the Interior Design & Furnishings? We'd still be wondering how the whole thing would ever get off the ground if not for Faye Smith occupying the central organizing seat. And I guarantee you that as I sit here now, I can name 30 other individuals who have been crucial to this moment before I even start thinking about it, and there are another 30 behind them, and more where that came from. How about everyone who has faithfully contributed prayers, money, energy, expertise, and time, just for starters.

Work remains to be done, but it is a joyful work, as we prepare for next Tuesday when we will need volunteers to help move furnishings into the new space. The next evening, Wednesday, Jan. 25, is the Soup Supper, which will take place for the 23rd consecutive year, but will also be the formal opening of the new fellowship hall.

Congratulations, well done, and on we go praising God. "Not to us, O God, not to us, but to Your name give glory, for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness" (Psalm 115:1).

Yours in Christ,

Keith

Wednesday Evening Bible Studies

Join us for our Wednesday Evening Bible Studies, 6:15-7:00 P.M.!

Child care can be made available during Wednesday evening Bible Studies; please notify the church office by Monday if you will need child care in order to join us on Wednesday.

The Pastor's Class is looking at the shorter books of the Old Testament. Each class will focus on a different OT book. For this week's class, check the course schedule posted on the Church Life page.

Clara Hare's B.A.S.I.C. Bible Study (Old Testament survey) meets in the library. Visitors and newcomers are always welcome! Materials will be given in class. Please bring a Bible. We're in Genesis.

The pastor recommends any of these New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) Study Bibles: The New Oxford Annotated Bible; The Discipleship Study Bible; the HarperCollins Study Bible; or the Green Bible. N.I.V. translations are also useful. (The King James Version and the Living Bible are beautiful texts but will not be as useful for study.)

Please note, dinner will not be served before the Bible groups meet. See you at 6:15--or, if you need to bring something and come a little early, feel free!

Reminder: please don't put recyclables in the trash! Rinse out plastic bottles, aluminum cans, and glass bottles and leave them in the recycling bins. We also recycle worship bulletins, cardboard, and newspaper. Thank you!

Please Re-Register Your Food Lion MVP Card

Those who have been using, or would like to use, their Food Lion MVP card to benefit CBPC, please see this important announcement from Food Lion. Some changes are being made to their program, and we will all need to re-link our MVP cards in order for the church to benefit. Thank you! -K.G.

"Food Lion is proud to announce the new MVP Community Rewards program, which will provide funds to help support local charities. Customers need to enroll their MVP card to support your charitable organization and we take care of the rest. Even if they linked their MVP Cards in the past, your supporters need to re-link at foodlion.com in order to earn credit for your charity. Once their card is linked, every time they use their Food Lion MVP Card your charitable organization will automatically be credited for every qualifying Food Lion Brand product they have purchased."
