Is your church group or organization planning a mission activity? Please tell the Mission & Benevolence Committee about it! If it involves fundraising, it will need session approval; but more importantly, if we know what all the groups are planning to do in mission—circles, Presbyterian Men, youth groups etc.—we can craft a mission calendar that doesn’t overlap and “steal your thunder” but supports and enhances all the mission opportunities we undertake. Scott Woodard is moderator of the committee.

Careful! This game is like a bag of potato chips: "Just one more" is easier said than done. Fortunately, it's a great way to get food to starving people - and not a bad way to brush up your vocabulary. Just click here.

CBPC Recycles!

When at church, please don't throw that plastic bottle, aluminum can or other recyclable material in the trash! Rinse it out and leave it in the recycling bin by the back door. Thank you!

You can send a message, via e-mail, to a patient at New Hanover, Pender or Cape Fear Hospitals. Click on www.nhhn.org and follow the simple instructions!

The Hunger Site

Visit www.thehungersite.com and, with just another click of a mouse, you can feed a hungry person today at no cost to you. It won't solve the problems that cause hunger, but it's a way you can help feed someone, every day--and the more people who take that simple step, the more lives can be saved until we do solve those problems.

Expansion Progress / Capital Campaign

Expansion Progress

The Capital Campaign Sub-Committee for the expansion of our building is hard at work preparing for a fall campaign to raise funds for the project. We have retained the services of a consultant from Presbyterian Church Financial Campaign Services, the Rev. L. Edwin (Ed) Martin. We have a plan developed by our consultant and have formed committees to carry out the various tasks associated with a capital campaign. The chairs are contacting church members to fill positions. You may have been contacted, or may be contacted in the near future!

Campaign Sub-committee Co-Moderators – Ed Davis and Fran Young

Promotion Committee – George Rose

Advanced Gifts Committee – Harrison Clark and Mark McLamb

Visiting Stewards Committee – Bettie Slusser and Jason Clamme

Finance Committee – Debi Taylor

Support Committee – Sally Hillbeck

Prayer Committee – Clara Hare

Hospitality Committee – Faye Smith

Fulfillment Committee – Cindy Snead

Undertaking this project will require the focus and commitment that are appropriate for God’s service. Watch for a series of mailings in September-October. And—if we may be so bold—we will ask every church member to plan on an after-church dinner on October 19. Rides will be made available for anyone who needs one. It is not inappropriate to change plans or schedule around that date in order to be here. Commitments will be received the following Sunday.

The focus of our efforts is to provide the physical facilities that are necessary to carry out the mission of this church now and in the future. We need your prayerful consideration and support. As we move forward with this project and the need to make personal commitments, let us always remember that this is not for our glory, but for the glory of God—and will only be accomplished if it is God’s will.

—Ed Davis and Keith Grogg

Spinks Gurganus Application Form
The Spinks Gurganus Scholarship was founded in 2002 as a memorial for Jeannine Gurganus. It is awarded to post-secondary students who are members of Carolina Beach Presbyterian Church. Applications must demonstrate active membership in the church and a commitment to higher education. The amount of the award varies from year to year--and recipient to recipient--at the committee's discretion, based on funds available from interest on seed money set aside by the session as a memorial to Ms. Gurganus in 2002.   more...
