Summer Youth Mission Trip July 25-30 Apr-13-2010
Dear CBPC Youth & Parents, It is now time for us to get firm commitments for the summer youth mission trip. The Rising Women’s circle is excited to offer this opportunity to our church. We need your monetary commitment on or before our youth meeting on Sunday, April 18 at 5:00 P.M. Dates for the trip are July 25-30. We will leave on that Sunday afternoon and plan to be there in time for 7:00 P.M. orientation. We plan to do our mission work on Monday through Thursday. Friday is a free day, and we would love to take the group to Carowinds for that day. We would then leave on Saturday morning to come home. (Some adults and youth may choose not to stay for the Carowinds day; this will be discussed at our April 18 youth meeting.) Most youth have handouts from our first planning meeting. Please visit the Myers Park Presbyterian Church website at www.myersparkpres.org; go to the Outreach section and then click on CROSS missions. There you will find detailed descriptions of activities, schedules, accommodations, and forms. If you are planning to go, please refer to the forms and complete at least the group covenant & medical & liability release form. The total registration costs for the week which must be paid by the church are $195 per person + $25 each to stay the extra night (Friday night). Our church has budgeted some funds to try to make this trip affordable to all church members. We have asked for a $50 commitment from each church member who enrolls. Other monies for participants to provide would be for snacks, Wednesday evening meal, any extra activities, and Carowinds on Friday. We may ask church members if they need work done around their homes to help individuals raise money if needed. If you are a church member and you want to attend, we will try to work with you to see that you can afford to go. Susan and Barry Rudd are committed to going; we need at least one more male and female to meet the adult requirements. If any church parents are interested, we would love to have you! We have room for 15 participants but may be able to open it up to more if we so choose.
Please review the website materials and call Susan Rudd (792-1570) if you have questions. Thank you and See you Sunday, April 18 at 5:00! Susan B. Rudd and Keith Grogg
Relay for Life Apr-13-2010
Relay for Life will be held at Ashley High School Friday evening-Saturday, April 23-24, 2010. We will decide at our April 18 youth meeting whether we are able to sponsor a tent this year. Everyone who will be able to participate, bring at least a $10 contribution this Sunday, April 18 to youth group and we will discuss Relay for Life after we talk through the Mission Trip.
Where Do Youth Have a Place in the Church?
Teenagers are meant to be involved in every facet of church life, and - just as with all members - youth members of the church have the privilege of expectations. In order to be considered for participation in the Montreat Youth Conference and other events, youth will need to have an acceptable attendance and participation record (specifics will be announced at the beginning of the 2009-10 program year) at all of these aspects of faithful church life: Worship in church each Sunday at 8:30 or 11:00. (If out of town on a Sunday, bring a bulletin from the church you visited in order to be counted as having been in worship. If you have friends or family over Saturday night, great! Bring them on Sunday morning. Otherwise, no excuses.) Also - all youth are invited to audition for the 11:00 Chancel Choir, another fun way to be there each Sunday. Education Hour each Sunday morning, 9:30-10:30 A.M. If you can't attend the youth class because you're helping with a children's class or visiting an adult class, please ask the lead teacher to confirm this with the Youth Education Hour teachers to be counted as present. Youth Group Meetings most Sunday afternoons, 5:00-6:00 P.M. Not every youth in the church is expected to feel like he or she has to be a member of this fellowship. But members of the group are invited to make a commitment to it and live up to it, and will be given preference when it's time to choose Youth Conference invitations. (See the list of Montreat Criteria below.) Church committees are always looking for youth involvement; young people with an income are invited to tithe or give a percentage as a regular offering; all special worship services are open to youth participation. No matter what your age is, come and claim your place at the table!

Montreat Stuff
The criteria used for consideration of young people who wish to participate in the Montreat Youth Conference include: Attitude—Is this someone whom others would want to live with for a week? Record of Behavior—Is this someone I can trust implicitly to respect others and follow the rules? Participation in Carolina Beach Presbyterian Church Youth Events—Has this youth been active in Sr. High fund-raisers and faith-building opportunities this year? Potential for Spiritual Growth—Have I seen this person seeking to improve in commitment, attitude, behavior and responsibility? Participation in the Life of the Church—Is this person an active or baptized member? Does he or she attend Sunday Morning Education Hour and worship regularly, tithe, serve on committees, etc.? Grade (i.e., Year in School)—How many more chances will there be for this youth to attend a Montreat conference?
