Wedding/Renewal of Vows Guidelines
The wedding ceremony shall be conducted in accordance with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Book of Order as a worship service.
The following guidelines reflect the philosophy and spirit of worship in the Presbyterian Church.
1. The pastor of CBPC is in charge of a wedding. Another minister may assist in or conduct the service with consent by the CBPC pastor and approval of the Session.
2. The use of the Carolina Beach Presbyterian Church for a wedding must be approved by the Session. A request to use the church facilities shall be submitted in a timely manner for due consideration.
3. Pastoral premarital counseling is required of all persons seeking to be married in Carolina Beach Presbyterian Church. The pastor shall find that the couple has a Christian commitment and responsibility and that the marriage offers promise of being blessed by God (Book of Order, W-4.9002).
4. The couple may select their own director or use the services of the church’s wedding director. However, the church’s wedding director must be present at the rehearsal and the wedding. Standard fees apply.
5. If the couple decides to use the church’s organist, they must consult with him/her regarding appropriate music at least four weeks prior to the ceremony.
6. All the church facilities shall be left clean and in good order.
7. Food and beverages are not permitted in the sanctuary. Smoking and the use of alcoholic beverages are not permitted on the church premises.
8. Aisle runners are not used in the sanctuary due to their unsuitability with the carpet.

Commonly Asked Questions
May we write our own wedding vows?
The minister will counsel the couple regarding the form and content of the service.
What type of music may be used?
Music suitable for the marriage service directs attention to God and expresses the faith of the Church rather than romantic love or sentimentality. The congregation may join in hymns and other forms of praise and prayer. The pastor or church organist may assist in the selection of appropriate music; however, the pastor gives the final approval for musical selections.
May pictures by taken during the ceremony?
Flash photography is NOT permitted during the service. A video camera on a tripod may be used at the back of the sanctuary, and it must remain stationary.
May we use the kitchen, fellowship hall, and other facilities?
These may be used with Session approval. Request for their use should be made approximately three months before the wedding.
May we move the pulpit, communion table, and baptismal font?
They may be moved with the consent of pastor and under his or her supervision. They must be returned to their places following the ceremony.
How may we decorate the sanctuary?
Dripless candles and flowers can be used. Flower arrangements should not be placed on the communion table, organ or piano. The strewing of fresh flower petals in the aisle is not permitted; however, silk petals are allowed. Nothing can be affixed to the pews with glue or tape.
NOTE: No rice, confetti, seed, etc. inside the church
