Harry Slusser has been nominated by Carolina Beach Presbyterian Church, and endorsed by its session, as Presbyterian Man of the Year, in recognition of his tireless commitment to the church, his generous giving of time and talents, and his strong, careful leadership in several areas crucial to our church’s ministry.

Harry is an elder currently serving his first term as a member of the session, in which capacity he is serving his third year as the moderator of our Budget & Finance committee. He has recently completed a two-year term as the president of our Presbyterian Men’s group and continues to play a leadership role in that organization. He is an active, founding member of the Beach Bunch, in which members of our growing church get to know one another through church-based and off-site fellowship events. He is also a devoted member of his Sunday School class, with a sterling attendance record.

When a new program or ministry needs someone to help get it off the ground, you will find Harry lending a hand, be it ushering for a new early worship service, teaching children’s Sunday School, even helping a church office worker with limited resources move house. Most recently, Harry has taken an important role on our church’s Capital Campaign subcommittee, as we enter into the fundraising phase of a building expansion program. Harry was instrumental in championing the payment of the church’s debt for 1.5 acres adjacent to the church property, which, in no small part due to his leadership on the Budget & Finance committee, was paid off in only three years.

But those are just the tangible aspects of Harry’s ministry. Most of what he contributes never appears in a statistical report, but in all of his ministry—much of it benevolently behind the scenes—he demonstrates an uncommonly deep and generous faithfulness to God’s word, and an abiding awareness of God’s particular call on Harry’s own life.

Harry is a tremendously conscientious, deeply devoted representative of the Presbyterian Church, enthusiastically sharing his gifts of faithfulness, generosity, prudence, wisdom, and humor, all of which go hand in hand with the energy, intelligence, imagination and love that Harry promised to apply to his ministry when he made his ordination vows.

The Presbyterian Men and the Session of Carolina Beach Presbyterian Church are proud to recognize Harry Slusser as the Presbyterian Man of the Year.
